The software is cloud-based, so no download or setup is required. You can find a link to the dashboard needed to complete the challenge below.

You need a Celonis Academic Alliance account to access Celonis Studio. Sign up for free here. Once you sign in, you will see the screen below. Click on “[Your Name]’s Academic Alliance” to access your Studio.


Trendara is a dynamic online retail store specializing in the latest trends across fashion, electronics, and home decor. Key processes include secure and diverse payment options at checkout, meticulous order fulfillment ensuring product integrity, and various shipping methods for swift delivery. Trendara also prioritizes flexibility with a straightforward return policy catering to customer needs, supported by a dedicated customer support team for any inquiries or issues.

Process variations are efficiently managed, including order cancellations and returns, to maintain operational flow and customer satisfaction. Moreover, Trendara is committed to innovation and sustainability, adopting eco-friendly packaging and optimizing logistics to reduce its carbon footprint. At its heart, Trendara blends trendsetting products with effective business processes, making it a favorite among customers seeking quality, innovation, and eco-conscious shopping experiences. You will examine the processes for Trendara and suggest a solution to speed up the processes.


  1. Sign in to Celonis Academic Alliance. You will land on the page “Quickstarts”. Under “Analyze an event log”, there is a box for uploading a .csv/.xlsx file. Press on the box and import the “Challenge6_Trendara Process Mining” .csv file.
    a. You will land on the “Configure” screen first. Since the data is already tidy, just hit “Next”.
    b. Next, you’ll get to the “Map your data” page. This step is to check that your data file’s columns match what we need for the analysis. Select the columns in the following order: CaseID > Activity > Timestamp. DO NOT select other columns.
  2. Create a Process Analysis page.
    a. Find the Studio in the left sidebar. (It is the second icon of the bottom group.)
    b. Click on “Create Package” at the top of the menu.
    c. When it asks for a Package name, type “Trendara”, and then continue.
    d. Look for the Choose data model option, and pick “[Quickstarts] CSV/XLSX”. Hit Next, set the Key name to “Trendara” and save it.
    e. Now, hit Create Analysis, enter “Trendara analysis” for the name, select the “Trendara” data model variable, and select “Create”.
    f. Click on “Process Explorer” to enter the analysis window.
  3. Use the Process Analysis page to answer a few questions. Include your answers in your post on TechHub.
  • What is the percentage of orders canceled out of all the orders placed?
  • What is the percentage of orders returned out of all the orders delivered?
  • What is the average total time for an order to be fulfilled? (Disregard the cancellation and returns) If you are stuck, see hint #2.
  • Suggest a way that Trendara can improve its processes. Due to the lack of details of Trendara’s processes, you can suggest anything. Be creative!
  • Take a look at the fun little animation for every order passing through the whole process by pressing Play button and selecting “No grouping”.

  • Adjust the “Activity” slider located on the right side of your screen by pushing it upwards. By default, Celonis usually displays only the most common activities, omitting the less frequent ones. However, by moving the slider upwards, you will start to observe more of these infrequent activities in the process map, enabling you to identify those less common yet potentially crucial events.

  • Click on the icon Time button at the top left of your canvas to display the average Throughput Time between activities. Throughput time measures the total time it takes to finish a task from start to end. Remember to hover over the icon Time button to change the throughput time format from “days” to “hours”.
